One of two monumental paintings by the Carlsbad painter Wilhelm Schneider hangs in the men's lounge, which was formerly used for the rest of the men's guests after their baths.
The artist captured famous visitors to Karlovy Vary in 1914. This canvas, depicting spa guests from 1791 to 1914, gives pride of place to the then Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I and his wife Elisabeth. However, there are sixty-seven personalities in total, including the composer Beethoven, the poet Goethe, Chancellor Metternich and Pope Leo XII.
The second painting with the theme of famous visitors by Wilhelm Schneider hangs in the former ladies' rest room. It depicts famous visitors to Karlovy Vary up to 1791 and features a total of forty-six figures. Among the visitors, it is worth mentioning Duke Albrecht von Wallenstein and the Renaissance scholar Bohuslav Hasištejnský of Lobkowitz.
The visitor should have realised, thanks to both paintings, what a significant and important place he was in when all these greats came to the spa for treatment or rest.
