The Room Next Door
After twenty-three memorable films that have written a uniquely engrossing chapter in the history of Spanish cinema, the newly seventy-five-year-old Pedro Almodóvar embarks on his first English-language feature adventure. In an elegant contemplation, he proves once again that a filigree style with haunting and colourful compositions is not mutually exclusive with an emotionally profound face-to-face confrontation with the "things of life". Such is the story of writer Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and war correspondent Martha (Tilda Swinton), longtime colleagues whose friendship is rekindled years later around the curious wishes of the gravely ill Martha. The jury of this year's Venice Film Festival awarded The Next Room the Golden Lion.
