Festival without borders
Festival Without Borders - a unique international festival focused on film music - FREE ENTRY
The central connecting element of the Festival Without Borders is film music and the music of audiovisual works. Ivan Hlas and Martin Dejdar will be the main stars of the inaugural edition, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film The Years of the Jackal with their concert. Miloš Bok and the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra with the premiere of the soundtrack to the audience hit Angel of the Lord, Honza Křížek with a programme for the film Cinderella or former bandmate of Miró Žbirka Jan Ponocný, who will present a one-man show with a cross-section of the filmography of the famous director Alice Nellis. The main guests from Germany will be the successful conductor and composer Johannes Guido Rumstadt, who in cooperation with the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra will perform gems of German film music such as Nibelungen, Goodbye Lenin or the co-production drama Schindler's List and rock bands The Deadnotes and Filistine.
The new Festival Without Borders is organized by the Karlovy Vary Region in the production of the promoter Jonny Angel and the Goodfellas association, among others on the stage of the newly reconstructed Císařské Lázně. Entrance to the festival and the spa building is free. The main theme will be the renewal of cultural cooperation between the Karlovy Vary Region and the nearby German regions of Saxony and Bavaria. The Festival Without Borders is thus a loose continuation of the defunct Mitte Europa festival, whose mission was to culturally unite people living in the Czech-German border region.
Programme
Festival Without Borders will offer four stages. The Symphony Stage is the newly reconstructed main hall of the Císařské Lázně by architect Petr Hajek and will present orchestral soundtracks. The outdoor Film Song stage will offer rock songs from famous Czech films. The Mute Film Stage will ring the entrance to the Imperial Spas with improvisations by virtuoso soloists to silent films by Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and the Marx Brothers, and the world-class clarinet player Anna Paulová will give an exclusive performance in the magnificent Zander Hall with piano accompaniment by Matyáš Zukal
The creation of the Festival Without Borders was initiated by Olga Haláková, the Karlovy Vary Region's Councillor for Culture and Heritage Care, with the aim of reviving the idea of the Mitte Europa festival mentioned above . Together with Mr. Andel, we have created a concept that we will continue to develop with the vision of promoting culture without limits." Comments Haláková, the long-time mayor of Bečov nad Teplou. Jonny Anděl from the band Goodfellas, who for 15 years has been organising one of the few Czech music showcase festivals in Karlovy Vary, exporting Czech artists to the British and American music market. I am honoured to be involved in a concept that will truly communicate with the audience on an international level without language barriers," Adds festival director Jonny Anděl.
